School Transport Assistance Scheme




A government scheme has come to our attention that allows parents to claim for the costs of transporting children to school, known as the School Transport Assistance Scheme (STAS).
You get a weekly amount of between $9.70 and $74.15 depending on your situation.

Eligibility
  • Attend an approved school in Queensland
  • State primary students must live more than 3.2 km by the shortest trafficable route
  • State secondary school students must live 4.8 km or more by the shortest trafficable route from the nearest state secondary school.
  • The eligible distance is from home to the closest school even if the student is unable to access that school.
  • This means people living out at Redlynch Valley are eligible as it is aproximately 6km to Redlynch College
  • People living at Palm Cove and Clifton beach can claim for secondary students as it is between 10 and 7km to Smtihfield High
  • The payments are made twice a year in June and December.
  • The claim must be applied for before 31 December.
