Schoolkids Bonus

The Government announced in the 2012 Budget that the education tax refund (ETR ) would be replaced by a new payment called the Schoolkids Bonus.

Effectively what this means is that the schooling payment is no longer paid through the income tax return but is paid as part of Family Tax Benefit Part A. The payments are usually made in January and June of each year.

Eligible families will automatically receive the payments into their bank account.

To be eligible to receive the School Kids Bonus you must first have lodged a claim for FTB Part A for the child with the Family Assistance Office (FAO) and had that claim approved. This includes approved claims where you elected to receive a zero fortnightly rate.
